About the Event

Join us for a special screening of American Coup: Wilmington 1898, a PBS documentary that revisits a turning point in our state’s history. The film explores how misinformation and outside influence fueled fear, division, and the destruction of a community newspaper — showing how fragile progress can be when truth is compromised.

For many decades, the truth concerning this event was left untold or greatly distorted. Today, it serves as a reminder of how easily history can repeat itself when facts are twisted and trust is broken.

Following the screening, we’ll host a public discussion to reflect on the lessons this history holds for us today — and how communities can come together to guard against misinformation and strengthen unity.
